Antarctica Trip: My Journey to the South before Turning 30 — Part 1, Why Antarctica and How was the trip
What is at the end of the world?
The world has no end because it is a globe.
I am turning 30 this year. This is a big thing for me.
There are many people asked me why I wanted to go to Antarctica, and each time I gave them a different answer. There were so many reasons why I wanted to go. Doing something equivalently big as me turning 30 is one of them, especially because there is a limited number of people under 30 who have set foot in Antarctica, as the Antarctica trip is not cheap, and is sometimes considered a rich elderly privileged activity simply because young people are less likely to afford it. I happened to make enough extra money in the last financial year — not from my lawyer’s salary. With zero time needed to save money for the trip or plan for it months or years ahead, when the idea came up in my head, I said to myself, why shouldn’t I go to Antarctica? I always thought that going to Antarctica was mission impossible for me: I am not a fan of winter, and also not a fan of spending 100,000 RMB — a good annual salary from someone in their 30s in China, for a trip but nothing else would be made easily without careful consideration.
