How did I win the title of “Queen of Oriental Beauty”?
Last month, I flew to Melbourne to participate in a Chinese traditional dress, Hanfu, competition. The competition has a fancy name in Chinese which is the “Queen of Oriental Beauty” Competition. The winners of the competition would gain a title of a certain type of queen of Oriental Beauty.
Attracted by the training session sessions, a set of beautiful Hanfu, dance classes, make-up classes, and photographs taken by professional photographers in the competition promotion posters, I registered my interest to become one of the queen candidates. To my surprise, there was not enough interest in Sydney. In the meanwhile, there was a huge success in enrollments in Melbourne. As a result, luckily, I became the only participant from Sydney to skip the preliminary competition and went into the final round straight away; unluckily, I did not get what I was hoping for, the dance class and a make-up class because it is not financially practical for the organisers to organise it for me in Sydney.
Nevertheless, I showed up at the final rehearsal in Melbourne on an October weekend which was a few hours before the final competition after missing numerous times of training sessions and pre-final rehearsals. With make-up I did myself, a set of Hanfu that I used to wear when I was in high school, a long black wig that I bought two days before…
